So I fail at updating this blog. Well, I do and I don’t. For one, I’ve been really busy with work these last couple of weeks, and haven’t had time to update. Or, if I do have time, I’m usually too tired to try and write. Blech. Then there’s Twitter. It’s not that I’m addicted to it, but I find that Twitter’s utility as a micro-blog of sorts is just so….. convenient. I’m quite interested as to what new direction the Internet takes, as it’s been such a fluid medium since its inception. It changes so quickly and rapidly at times that even being mere seconds behind the rest of the world is already too slow. Crazy stuff, that internet.
Okay, so what have I been up to? Parties. Yep. At the moment I’m earning some extra income on the side shooting special event parties and afterparties. Not exactly what I prefer, but hey, it pays. I just wrapped up the weekend portion of the Newport Beach Film Festival, which ends on Thursday. Pretty interesting mingling with up and coming filmmakers and celebrities, as well as lots of media and press. For the first time, I felt like a real paparazzo. Luckily, my job only consisted of capturing the environment of the festival itself, not trying to elbow my way through a dozen other photographers to try to get someone to look at you. Not very fun. Especially when all the other phtoographers are physically larger than you.
But all the little celebrities were real nice. Take Omar Gooding up there, for example. At first, I thought Cuba Gooding Jr. had gained weight. Then I was told it was his brother. That was a sigh of relief. Imagine if I had walked up to him initially and said “What’s up, Cuba?!”. Oy, I probably would’ve gotten a mean glare for that. But he was real nice, and very down to earth. I can definitely appreciate celebrities like that. The kind that don’t expect everything handed to them on a silver plate, and those who make time for others. I don’t think I’d make a good tabloid celebrity. I’m not very good at causing scandal. By the way, if you’d like, you can view the photos over the weekend HERE.
I’ve got a few shoots coming up over the next few weeks. I’ll be shooting a band from Long Beach. Their name is Canela y Negro, a salsa band. I have no idea what their name means, but they play some pretty slick music. Also met a dancer named Sherreace who I’ll be collaborating with sometime over the next few weeks for some modeling shots. On top of that, I’ve got a couple little prom shoots mixed in, nothing big, just quick fun stuff for my friends.
Which reminds me: I’m looking for someone, preferably female, to do some test shots with over the next few weeks. I’m getting a few new lights and lenses, and I’d like to test out some light setups, as well as experiment with different poses in the studio. It’s open to anyone really who might enjoy getting a few free photos just for fun. I wish I could pay this time, but I’m still saving up for my upcoming roadtrip. If anyone’s interested, let me know. Oh yeah, please be local. I wouldn’t want you to have to drive 50 miles…. unless you really really really want some free photos.
