Truly Moving.

The night before the burial of her husband’s body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of “Cat,” and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. “I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it,” she said. “I think that’s what he would have wanted.”

I’m not posting this as some kind of propaganda to end the war. Nor is it a photo meant to inspire us to keep fighting. Truth is, war is the last thing I think of when I look at this photo.

The first thing I think of, is Love.

I’m taking baby steps for now. Just because you don’t forget how to ride a bike doesn’t mean its going to be easy even if you haven’t ridden one in years.

Roadtrip Day 2: Santa Barbara Redux and Day 3: PCH

So day 2 was filled with going to the Santa Barbara Zoo, and visiting the Fisherman’s Wharf, complete with a skate park:

Later that day I’d end up meeting with Danae and going salsa dancing, but alas, no pics of that :(

Day 3 pretty much consisted of driving down the wonderful PCH, seeing lots of beautiful plants, animals, and cliffs along the way:

I’ve still got plenty more photos to share, and plenty of stories to talk about, so stay tuned!

Today, We Celebrate Our Independence Day!

I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful and safe Independence Day weekend! To celebrate, I just wanted to share one of my favorite speeches from the greatest 4th Of July themed movie ever, Independence Day :)

Doesn’t it just make you want to go out and shoot some aliens in the face? I know it does for me. And you can be sure I’ll be watching this movie tonight! Have fun everyone, and be safe!

My Week In Pictures

Although my week has been busy, and I have lots to talk about, words escape me right now during the early morning. So instead, I’m going to take a cue from one of my favorite sites, The Big Picture, and I’m going to once again photoblog my personal exploits throughout the week. Let me know what you think, I just might make this a weekly thing :)

The photos are best viewed when enlarged. To enlarge, simply click on the photo.

Just Because

… I feel like going back to high school and filling out one of those surveys that are all the rage these days.

TEN HOW’S:

How did you get one of your scars? There’s one on my knee. I got it when I was about 9, and I fell off my bike super hard and scraped my knee on the pavement. Like, a whole chunk of skin was gone.

How did you celebrate your last birthday? Worked in the day, then just stayed in my room all night. Not a fan of my birthday.

How are you feeling at this moment? somewhat idiotic for actually filling out this survey.

How did your night go last night? Not bad, just relaxed. One of the few nights I get all to myself.

How did you do in high school? i guess i did pretty good.

How did you get the shirt you’re wearing? i bought it from Kina at the Hotel Cafe. Scratch that, I actually bought it from Mrs. Grannis, not Kina :)

How often do you see ur best friend? I see Jon every Tuesday for sure, and Jason at least every Sunday

How much money did you spend last month? Probably more than I needed to on food.

How old do you want to be when you get married? old enough

How old will you be at your next birthday? 25. yep.

NINE WHAT’S:

Your mothers name? Nina Magdalena. Lol

What did you do last weekend? Let’s see… watched UP, watched Alex’s Improv Show, watched Kina’s 3rd Street show, went to Kelvin’s going away dinner, went to church, watched Heidi’s dance concert, then watched UP again.

What is the most important part of your life? my relationship with God

What would you rather be doing? taking pictures of people in interesting places.

What did you last cry over? “Cross my heart.”

What always makes you feel better when you’re upset? a nice hug. not those wussy side/arm hugs. a real, full on, arms wrapped around hug.

What’s the most important thing you look for in a significant other? Aside from a sense of humor, a genuine love for God

What are you worried about? my Washington roadtrip

What did you have for breakfast? Honey Bunches of Oats

EIGHT HAVE YOU’S:

Have you ever liked someone who had a girlfriend/boyfriend? kind of, but its not like I would ever act on it. I’m no homewrecker :)

Have you ever had your heartbroken? of course, but we all live and learn

Have you ever been out of the country? philippines, mexico, canada…… hawaii? lol

Have you ever done something outrageously dumb? oh the stories I could share =P

Have you ever been back stabbed by a friend? Interestingly enough, I’m sure I have been, but I’ve learned to forgive and forget, so nothing comes to mind.

Have you ever had sex on the beach? gross, wouldn’t that be kind of….. abrasive? Short answer, no

Have you ever dated someone younger than you? yep

Have you ever read an entire book in one day? If its less than 300 pages, I can usually do it in 2 hours or less

SEVEN WHO’S:

Who was the last person you saw? Jon, Thomas, and Bernie

Who was the last person you texted? Alana

Who was the last person you hungout with? Jon, Thomas, and Bernie. Thomas is back from the Philippines after 4 years! The Rat Pack is back! Since 1998 sucka!

Who was the last person to call you? According to my phone, it’s Heidi’s dad, but I didn’t pick up, because I lost my phone in Santa Monica :( . I text more than I talk.

Who did you last hug? Nikki gave me a hug as I walked into work.

Who is the last person who texted you? Vivi

Who was the last person you said “i love you” to? I think it was Alana, but it was more out of forgiveness for saying she looked like a dork in 3d glasses.

SIX WHERE’S:

Where does your best friend live? Jon lives in Phillips Ranch, and Jason now lives with his wonderful wife Annie in Whittier :)

Where did you last go? Costco, to grab some polish sausages for dinner.

Where did you last hang out? at Costco, with Jon, Thomas, and Bernie for dinner

Where do you go to school? no mas escuela

Where is your favorite place to be? my car is my quiet place. but other than that, Disneyland :)

Where did you sleep last night? my room, duh.

FIVE DO’S/DOES:

Do you like someone right now? i don’t think so.

Do you think anyone likes you? i have no idea. if you like me, please tell me :)

Do you ever wish you were someone else? not really. what’s the point? i’d rather be spending time living my own life than wasting time wishing i was living someone else’s.

Do you know the muffin man? your mom.

Does the future scare you? kinda, when i’m not being fully trusting in God.

FOUR WHY’S:

Why are you best friends with your best friend(s)? I’ve shared way too many adventures with Jason, but I haven’t seen him as often as he’s off on his own new adventure called Marriage :) . I wouldn’t have survived high school without Jon, and we still hang out all the time.

Why did you get a myspace? I didn’t, Zahara made mine. I didn’t want her pretending to be me, so I just took it over.

Why did your parents give you the name you have? I dunno, if you see them, ask them.

Why are you doing this survey? because its what all the cool kids are doing these days. like wearing scarves and drinking energy drinks.

THREE IF’S:

If you could have one super power what would it be?? Easy, make food magically appear. The reason is twofold, 1) I can make whatever I want and tame my ridiculous appetite, and 2) I would actually be a superhero for putting an end to world hunger. Please don’t steal my superpower and pass it off as your own. I came up with it first :)

If you could go back in time and change one thing, would you? Nope, I’ve watched way too many movies involving time travel to know that it never really ends well.

If u were stranded on a deserted island & could bring 1 thing what would you bring? for all purposes of practicality, a knife. Cut down trees, kill some wildlife, dig up some plants…. you can’t do that with a computer or a book can you?

TWO WOULD-YOU-EVER’S:

Would you ever get back together with any of your ex’s if they asked you? No. I’ve moved on, even if it took longer for some than for others, but I’m happy to still have them as friends.

Would you ever shave your head to save someone you love? I’ve already shaved my head for lesser things, so of course.

ONE LAST QUESTION

Are you happy with your life right now? I’m happy, but I’m not satisfied. Not in this world I won’t be.

Art Inspiring Art

Sometimes the best secrets are the ones you have in common with people you don't know.

Sometimes the best secrets are the ones you have in common with people you don't know.

I love going to Postsecret every Sunday to find a treasure trove of people’s secrets. Some are funny, some are depressing, some are downright dirty. But the ones I love the most, are the ones that inspire. I look out for those ones more than any other secret. Maybe it’s because I feel like my love for life is lacking, or my creativity is hitting the wall, I’m not sure. But when I see secrets like the one I posted above, they just give me that one extra reason to stop and think, “God blessed me with a wonderful life”. It usually tends to be something awesome to think about while I drive to church the same morning.

It’s Finally Ready!

Whew! After a couple months of planning, and a lot of work planning and designing, www.timmonzon.com has finally launched! It’s kept me pretty busy over the weekend, so I don’t have any new photos to show you.

Actually, those couple of months reading and learning and designing actually ended up being a bit wasted, when I found a plugin called LRB Portfolio for Adobe Lightroom that I purchased for about 15 bucks that generate awesome websites with not too much work. So ha. But hopefully I’ll be able to put what little website designing skills I have to use some other time. So if you’ve got time, go ahead and check it out! Big shoutout to Sean McCormack for creating such an awesome plugin.

In other news, a friend of mine informed me of a website that used a photo of mine, and I love it! It’s a fairly popular blog called Don’t Be Sad, and they featured one of my photos in a section called Random Acts of Kindness. You can check out the photo right here.

Anyways, even though they didn’t contact me about using the photo, its okay, because I had applied a Creative Commons license to it. That basically means, go ahead and use whatever it is I created, as long as you give me credit. It’s pretty awesome. Good thing I went to that Hillsong United concert a while back :) .
